Scholarships
Alpenglow and its supporters strongly believe in promoting music appreciation for listeners of all ages and that playing an instrument can change a young person’s life. To support young musicians in our community, each year we award numerous scholarships for middle school music lessons and the Carlton F. Thornbury College Scholarship for college tuition. To date, Alpenglow has awarded over $5,000 in music lesson scholarships and $34,500 in college scholarships.
The Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival Carlton F. Thornbury College Scholarship is awarded to college-bound, graduating Summit County seniors who demonstrate strong musical talent and commit to continuing musical studies in college.
The 2026 Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival Carlton F. Thornbury Scholarship Recipients
Congratulations Saskia and Frank! We look forward to your continued success as you pursue further musical studies in college.
Frank Lopez Moreno - D-Day Honor Band
Frank has been in a music program since 6th grade, and has loved every minute of it. He has seen the growth of his talent, and this summer he was presented with an opportunity to go to the beaches of France and honor the D-Day veterans who fought to liberate France from German occupation in WWII.
Thanks to many donors and especially the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival organization, he is able to go on the trip at no cost. He is super grateful for all those who have helped, because if not, it would have been cost prohibitive. He is very excited to go out of the country because he will be the first in my family to ever go abroad. And it’s all thanks to the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival.
Saskia Martin-Williams - Musical Theater
Saskia Martin-Williams graduated from Summit High School in 2025. She chose to take a gap year to supplement her musical theater experiences before attending college. She will be attending Ohio University this fall for her BFA in Musical Theatre.
Saskia has loved theatre her whole life and has portrayed roles such as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Anna in Frozen, Regina George in Mean Girls, Wednesday in The Addams Family, and Matilda in Matilda. She could not be more grateful to receive a scholarship from the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival to support her further musical development as an artist.
Middle School Music Lesson Scholarship
Scholarship money is awarded to promising Summit County middle school students to help pay for musical lessons.
Annual Alpenglow Musical Workshops and Master Classes
Hearing great performances has an enduring influence on young musicians.
That’s why, each year, Alpenglow musicians conduct an interactive workshop or master class for Summit students. Our musicians perform excerpts of pieces performed during the festival and offer insight regarding the selection of composers and instruments. These workshops and master classes have always been enthusiastically received.
Alpenglow's Artistic Directors, Jesse Mills and Rieko Aizawa, spent two days in Summit County this spring providing workshops at Summit High School and Upper Blue Elementary.
