“Rhapsodic Elegance” - This opening program is perfect for the summer season — each piece has a rhapsodic and mesmerizing flair! Haydn brings Viennese elegance and unexpected surprises; the American composer, Russell Platt created a fabulous magical world full of nuance, setting the surrealist poetry of Mark Strand; Villa-Lobos was exceptional, expressing his Brazilian fantasy in a personal musical language; the Horszowski Trio ends the program with a Brahms trio, showcasing German richness inspired by Hungarian rhapsody. 

We welcome back the virtuoso flutist, Jennifer Grim, and a rising star tenor, Daniel McGrew, who will make his Alpenglow debut!

“New Voices, New Sounds”  - Beethoven and Debussy were both innovative geniuses, forever changing the world.  Beethoven had an unusual fire, and his music precipitated the romantic era.  His first published work, this dramatic Opus 1 piano trio, proves why he was already the rockstar rebel of Europe!  The French impressionist, Debussy completely reinvented music with his wild color palette, creating a new and mysteriously picturesque world.  We introduce a gem by American composer Louise Talma, setting the imaginative poetry of Wallace Stevens.

"Serenade from Spain and Beyond" - The romantic Turina calls to us like a snake charmer, his Spanish-tinged passion invading our hearts.  We are serenaded into the world of virtuoso classical guitar, including charming and romantic treasures by Mexican composer Ponce and the Houston-based Pierre Jalbert.  Finally, masterpieces by the titan Ravel, a French-Basque composer who channeled Spanish sounds in his music.  

We are delighted to present two returning Alpenglow artists, the soulful violist Ara Gregorian and world-class guitarist, Daniel Lippel.

"The Everlasting Soul of Folk Music" - All music is born from folk traditions; humanity and culture are the core ingredients of art.  This soiree highlights folk music, taking us on a world tour across centuries.  We showcase Tango music by Argentinian star, Piazzolla, followed by a wonderful piece based on an Argentinian children’s song, written by the American composer David Serkin Ludwig.  We feature Japanese composers Toru Takemitsu, Toshio Hosokawa and Paul Chihara, who all wrote works inspired by famous and heartfelt melodies.  Clarke expresses her musical thoughts in the form of a “Dumka,”an epic Slavic ballade.  We conclude the 2026 Alpenglow Festival with iconic music by the Bohemian composer Dvorak, also in a Dumka style, bringing us both joy and tears.
