Scholarships and Gifts
In addition to presenting spectacular chamber concerts, Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival is committed to promoting music education and appreciation for listeners of all ages, as stated in our Mission Statement.
Our yearly projects include:
-
One $1500 scholarship awarded to a deserving high school senior who plans to continue their music studies in college. This scholarship is awarded based on a detailed application which is an online process.
-
Since 2017, $6,000 in college scholarships have been awarded
-
One $900 music lesson scholarship awarded to a promising middle school student, who otherwise wouldn't have the means to take private lessons (this is a new donation project which has replaced our tuition scholarship program for the Summit Youth Orchestra as the Summit Youth Orchestra has now disbanded).
Other projects:
-
At times the Summit High School music director lets us know of particular instrumental needs for the school -- this past spring, we donated $1,000 earmarked to purchase three string instruments needed for the school orchestra.
-
Fall of 2017, $2,000 was donated to Summit High School music department to purchase one cello, three violas, and two violins for their student loan program
-
Spring 2021, $2,000 was donated to the Summit High School jazz band to purchase a much-needed portable keyboard
-
After seeing a Summit Daily article featuring a Summit High School clarinetist who was accepted into the "Honors Performance Series" for high schoolers, Alpenglow awarded Luke Kneller a $200 scholarship to go toward traveling costs. Only 200 students were chosen out of 10,000 applicants from all over the world, and this year's group performed in Vienna, Austria during July. Luke also performed at our free concert at the Silverthorne Pavilion.
-
Our Alpenglow musicians give workshops at Summit High School each year for approximately 75 orchestra and band students. These workshops are enthusiastically received each year.
