Luke Fatora, the 2009
Alpenglow Scholarship Recipient
The Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival annually awards a scholarship to a
promising local music student who has demonstrated outstanding musical talent
and intends to study music in college. This year Alpenglow is pleased to
award this scholarship to Luke Fatora and was proud to introduce him at a
reception in his honor on June 16. This reception also benefited the Alpenglow Scholarship Fund so that many more young musicians may be encouraged to realize their dreams in the future. Luke performed a few personally chosen violin works at this reception.
Luke Fatora epitomizes the ideals of the Alpenglow Scholarship. He is a recent graduate of Summit High School and is the eldest of three sons of Thomas and Louanne Fatora of Silverthorne, Colorado. Luke will attend the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio with the ultimate and very ambitious goal of becoming the concertmaster for a symphony orchestra. Throughout his rigorous studies he will be required to participate in music competitions on a global scale.
Luke is an exceptionally gifted performer and has already gained an extensive
musical background. He has been awarded the seat of Principal
Violinist/Concertmaster at Summit High School for the past two years. He has
been awarded Honorable Mention in the string quartet category of the Pikes
Peak Young Composers Competition for his original composition, A Short Lament
for String Quartet. He has been Principal Violinist/Concertmaster for the
Colorado Youth Symphony. He has been a violinist with Front Ra
nge Youth Symphony Orchestra and has earned numerous other awards for his performances. He sets extremely high standards for himself and has achieved a great deal in his young years. One can only imagine how far Luke will go and what he will achieve in the future!
